Fort Lee Running for Our Youth 5K Recap

Event Overview

The Fort Lee Community Center buzzed with energy on Sunday, June 9th, 2024, as over 250 participants gathered for the annual Fort Lee Running for Our Youth 5K. Despite the blustery weather and intermittent rain, the spirit of the runners and supporters was undampened, making for an exciting and memorable race.


Race Highlights

The challenging weather conditions did not deter the participants, who braved the wind and rain to navigate the 5K course through Fort Lee. The race highlighted the resilience and determination of the community, showcasing their dedication to supporting local youth programs.


For the third consecutive year, Elson Smajlaj proved his prowess by securing the overall victory with an impressive time of 18:10. Smajlaj's consistent performance has cemented his status as a formidable competitor in the local running scene. In the women's division, Ruiyao Sun delivered an outstanding performance, finishing first with a time of 21:10. Sun's determination and speed were evident as she conquered the course, earning well-deserved applause from her fellow participants and spectators.


Community and Participation

The event brought together a diverse group of runners, from seasoned athletes to enthusiastic newcomers. The challenging weather only served to strengthen the camaraderie among participants, with many runners expressing their satisfaction in overcoming the elements together. The support from the community was heartwarming, with cheers and encouragement echoing along the course despite the rain.
