9th Annual Hero 5k

On a chilly Sunday morning, November 3rd, the 9th Annual Hero 5K at Bergen Community College brought together nearly 400 runners eager to test their endurance while supporting a meaningful cause. With race temperatures barely cresting into the 30s, fall racing was unmistakably in the air, setting a brisk backdrop for a morning of competition and camaraderie.

Starting promptly at 8:30 a.m., runners embarked on the course with determination, among them Rock Race Timing's own Adam and Eric. Adam set a season best time of 18:42 and finished 5th overall while Eric finished in 26:09.


In a fantastic display of speed, Justin Napier claimed victory with an impressive time of 17:22, building upon his second-place finish from last year and capturing this year's top spot. The women’s race was a thrilling highlight as Yoonmi Kim and Barbara Willock matched each other stride for stride until the very end. In a nail-biting finish, Kim narrowly edged out Willock, finishing in 22:50, just one second ahead of her competitor, to secure 19th place overall.

The Hero 5K's participants not only celebrated their personal triumphs but also supported an important cause, with proceeds benefiting Bergen Community College's veterans. This year’s event exemplified the power of community, resilience, and the spirit of competition, leaving participants and supporters alike looking forward to next year’s race.
